| This study analyses the insertion of the spatial productive circuit of cellulose in Eunápolis, in the extreme south of Bahia state, with the installation of the Veracel Celulose enterprise. Result of a joint venture between Aracruz Celulose and Stora Enso, Veracel Celulose is one of the largest industrial plants of this world circuit. The research shows that land concentration increase, caused by the intensive land purchasing carried out by the company, and the large contingent of migrants attracted to Eunápolis, are not compensated by jobs offered and tributes paid by Veracel. | Leaf Area Index (LAI, i.e. horizontal projection of leaf area per unit ground area) is highly correlated with water balance and net primary production in forest ecosystems. LAI is related with species, but it is also highly dependent on environmental conditions and management practices which influence the availability of water and nutrients. This work aimed at establishing allometric relationships in fast-growing Eucalyptus grandis plantations in Brazil (Itatinga – São Paulo) making it possible to predict the LAI under K and Na fertilization. | This article characterized the forest fragments of Una River hydrographic basin, affluent of the Paraíba do Sul River. Results showed that the average mean size of all fragments is 9.06 ha and that the correlation to the circular shape is 0.68 and the mean nucleus area of fragments considering a border effect of 60m is 5.86 ha. The mean distance among them is 245m. These parameters indicate that this basin has elongated fragments, with high border effect and may be in risk of biodiversity erosion. | This work was developed in the Paraíba River Valley between Jacareí and Pindamonhangaba municipalities. The objective was to analyze the different types of use of sand pits after the extraction of the mineral according to technical standards and economical viability. Based on the literature and consultations with environmental institutions and professionals that work in the area, several field observations campaigns were organized jointly by DEPRN, CETESB and the Environmental Police to characterize the profile of all mining companies. Different types of post-mining activities were found and the need to make the uses compatible with specific local characteristics was identified. |

| The purpose of this work is to study the potentially contaminating trace elements present in industrial waste that is discharged into the environment. The aim was to assess the parameters needed for it to be used in controlling the mobility of the potentially contaminating trace elements present in the residues.
